‘I Salute You’ Saturday: Kelsey Cherry

Alas, today a new tradition is born. Saturdays on the blog will now be called, “I Salute You” Saturday. A highlight of someone who inspires me — someone who lives a beautiful life that I think others can glean something from. First up: my college roommate and best friend, Kelsey Cherry.

Photographer by day, masked heroine and music venue dweller by night, this woman seeks thrills and adventures like none other. She knows that her real home is in Heaven, and she’s content to float from place to place on earth as long as she’s got a camera around her neck and some good tunes for the road.

Kelsey draws out the nomad in me more than anyone else I know. She fuels spontaneity and challenges others to be risk takers. She lives without fear (which is fitting since her name means “brave”), and there’s favor on her life because of it — God entrusts her with much because she trusts Him with everything.

I asked her what her life motto is. It was no surprise to hear her answer: “I want to go on thrilling adventures and wondrous escapades. I want to be recklessly abandoned, never holding back. I want to live like that.”

Kelsey is a woman of wonder. She lives in a place of awe and amazement of how big God is, with a child-like disposition that He made her to enjoy a world that is her playground. A world that is a canvas for her creativity — made by a God who gave her a giftedness in capturing precious moments ordained by Him.

She knows who she is, and the best in her draws out the best in others. She makes life happen by bringing people to life.

Kels, I salute you. You make me better — you make everybody better. And, added bonus, your spectacular camera skills make everybody LOOK better, too!
